Articles of Association

Article 1 (Name)
The association shall be referred to as the Korean Association of Foreign Student Administrators (hereinafter, KAFSA).

Article 2 (Purpose of Association)
Purposes of the association are to contribute to the mutual cooperation and interchange of information between leaders and staffers in charge of international interchange of domestic universities/colleges and institutions related with university/college education (hereinafter, the staffers in charge of international interchange) and to facilitate the mutual interchange and cooperation of these domestic educational institutions with representative international educational institutions in foreign countries.

Article 3 (Services)
To realize the purposes of the association as declared, the following duties and services as specified in the following are prepared therefor.
① Mutual interchange of information and associated materials between members (the educational institutions).
② Mutual interchange and cooperation with domestic and foreign international educational institutions.
③ Collection of information and materials related with the international interchange between domestic and foreign educational institutions.
④ Holding seminars associated with international interchange of educational institutions.
⑤ Others deemed necessary for the achievement of the purposes of the association.

Article 4 (Location of Association)
The location of association shall be deemed as the place of president (school) of the association.

Article 5 (Membership)
① Regular members of the association shall be domestic universities/colleges currently participating in the international interchange with foreign educational institutions.
② Associate members of the association shall be the institutions related with the business or services for the international interchange thereof except domestic universities/colleges.

Article 6 (Acquisition and Return of Membership)
The acquisition and return of membership shall be determined by the board of directors of the association.

Article 7 (Duties and Responsibilities of Members)
① All members of the association are entitled to participate in all services and activities of the association.
② The right to vote and the electoral eligibility of the association shall be assigned to the one representing each member of the association.
③ Associate members of the association are deemed to have no right to vote and electoral eligibility thereof.
④ All members of the association shall pay the predetermined obligatory membership fees and shall observe the decisions made by the association.

Article 8 (Officers)
The association shall have following officers.
1. President: 1 person
2. Senior Vice President: 1 person
3. Vice President(s): within 2 people
4. Auditor: 1 person
5. Directors: Within 10 people
6. Chief of General Affairs: 1 person

Article 9 (Term of Office)
The term of office for board members shall be 1 year. The president of association shall not be reappointed.

Article 10 (Election of Board Members)
① The Senior Vice President shall be elected from the general meeting and will succeed to the next presidency.
② The Auditor of the association shall be elected from the general meeting.
③ Other directors of the association are supposed to be recommended by members of the association and shall be appointed by the president thereby.

Article 11 (Official Duties of Directors)
Official duties of directors of the association are as defined in the following:
1. President: The presidency of the association shall represent the association and is assumed to be a chair of the general meeting and the board of directors in charge of comprehensive administration of the operation of association.
2. Senior Vice President: The senior vice presidency shall assist the presidency of association and may be deputized for the presidency on the absence of the president.
3. Vice Presidents: The vice president(s) shall assist the president of association and may be deputized as the president on the absence of the senior vice president deputized for the presidency.
4. Auditor: The auditor of association shall audit the business activities and financial accounting details and shall provide the general meeting of the association with the audit reports.
5. Directors (Board Members): The directors of the board of association are entitled to participate in the operation of the association and making decisions thereof.
6. Chief of General Affairs: The chief of general affairs is responsible for doing general affairs according to orders issued by the president.

Article 12 (Advisers)
The association may appoint several advisers.

Article 13 (Completion of Decision Making)
The meetings to be held for decision makings of the association shall be completed by the attendance of the majority of all members and the decision makings thereof shall be effectuated by the approval of the majority of attendance.

Article 14 (General Meeting)
① The regular general meeting of association shall be held once a year before August whereas the temporary general meetings may be convened at the discretion of the president of association.
The general meeting of association is entitled to make decisions of important issues including the establishment or revision of the articles of association, election of board members, approval of budget or financial settlement thereof, or agenda associated with the operation of association.

Article 15 (Board of Directors)
① The meeting of the board of directors of association may be convened at the discretion of president or be held on request of the directors more than 1/3 of all board members.
② The board of directors shall deliberate and deal with regular or temporary issues related with the operation of association or those entrusted from the general meeting.

Article 16 (Committee)
The president of association may install mission specific committees for the association.

Article 17 (Finance)
① The financial requirements for the operation of association shall be furnished with the membership fees and other incomes.
② The membership fees for the association shall be determined by the board of directors before opening of the annual regular general meeting.

Article 18 (Fiscal Year)
The fiscal year of association shall span from the September 1 of every year to the August 31 next year.

Article 19 (Revision of Articles of Association)
The amendment of the articles of association shall be completed by the approval of more than 3/2 of the attendance of the majority of all members at the annual regular general meeting convened by the initiation of more than 1/3 of all members or by the decision of board of directors.
(Effective Date) The articles of association shall be effective from December 17, 1999.
(Effective Date) The revised articles of association shall be effective from April 30, 2004.
